Beverly Hills Facelift (rhytidectomy)
As we age, our skin begins to lose its elasticity because of the breakdown in collagen. This can often make the face and neck wrinkle and sag, causing many people to look older than they actually feel.
Ideal Candidates
Individuals who are best suited for a facelift are in good overall health and wish to improve wrinkles as well as sagging skin in the neck, jowls, and corners of the mouth. If necessary, a facelift may be performed concurrently with other procedures in order to achieve an even greater outcome.
Procedure
The procedure is done under general or local intravenous anesthesia and can take anywhere between two to four hours. There are numerous variations to a facelift that can be performed depending on what area(s) of the face need to be addressed.
Full Facelift – A full facelift (traditional) is used to rejuvenate the face, jowls, and neck by removing excess skin and fat while repositioning the muscle to a more aesthetically-pleasing location. An incision is made at the temple which goes around the creases of the ear and to the hairline behind the ear.
Mini Facelift – A mini facelift targets the lower portion of the face and is best suited for patients who do not require improvement in the neck area. Short incisions are made at the temples and around the ear or in the hairline.
The incisions are closed with sutures and scars are hidden behind the ears or in the hairline so that they are less noticeable to the naked eye.
Recovery
After the facelift surgery is complete, swelling, numbness, and bruising may be apparent. These symptoms are common and can be alleviated by prescribed medication.
Your New Look
A noticeable improvement will be seen in the amount of aging skin and wrinkles. Although results are seen directly after surgery, your final look may take a few months to be seen.
