High Riding Breast Implants in Beverly Hills, CA
A breast augmentation can be one of the most rewarding procedures. However, in some instances where the implants are placed too high in the breasts, they create an incredible amount of pressure on the soft tissue. This condition is known as “high riding” and can leave the breasts looking unnatural because of bad implant placement and force the patient to undergo revision surgery to correct this appearance.

Ideal Candidates
The best candidates for high riding implant revision are in good physical and emotional health. Candidates should stop smoking at least two weeks before surgery is performed and avoid taking anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, since this can increase the risk for bleeding. As with any type of surgery, patients should have realistic expectations about the procedure.
Individuals who undergo high riding implant revision have one or more of the following problems with their breast implants:
- Inadequate muscle release
- Poor pocket development
- Early capsule formation
Procedure
High riding implant revision surgery is performed on an outpatient basis at our accredited Beverly Hills facility. It is done under general anesthesia and usually takes a couple hours to complete. During surgery, Dr. Chiu will correct the high riding implants by:
- Releasing the muscle
- Increasing the pocket size
- Excising the capsule
After the implants are placed correctly and the breasts look more natural, Dr. Chiu will close up the incisions with sutures.
Recovery
After surgery is completed, the breasts will be bandaged and a special compression garment will be applied to minimize swelling.
Drainage tubes may also be placed in the breasts to remove any excess fluid that exists after surgery. Any discomfort that you experience during the next few days can be alleviated by prescribed pain medication. Many patients return to work about a week after surgery, but strenuous activity and exercise should be avoided for at least four to six weeks after surgery.
