I consulted with two surgeons in Chicago for diastasis recti repair, and Dr. Chiu’s consultation was by far the most thorough and reassuring. He took his time, explained exactly what he would be doing, and never rushed the appointment. I truly appreciated that transparency — it immediately built trust. I avoided surgery for over 10 years because I believed I could fix the muscle separation through physical therapy and core strengthening. I worked extremely hard at it, but over time my lower back pain turned into a chain reaction of discomfort into my hips and even up toward my neck. There were days when my back was so unstable that I would hold myself up with one arm against the counter while brushing my teeth with the other, or lean into my elbows while doing dishes to take pressure off my lower back. Other medical professionals explained how the abdominal separation was likely contributing to the instability.
