Brazilian Butt Lift
Fastest Growing Plastic Surgery Trend: Brazilian Butt Lift
The Brazilian butt lift is a form of buttock augmentation surgery (also called gluteoplasty); a group of cosmetic surgery procedures used to give the buttocks a larger, rounder, and more lifted appearance. Buttock augmentation surgery is one of the fastest growing trends in cosmetic surgery. This is likely in no small part due to the rise in popularity of the so called “bubble butt,” influenced by celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, and Beyoncé. These stars have made larger, rounder rear ends desirable.
The Brazilian Butt Lift and Body Contouring
The Brazilian butt lift involves removing fat from the belly, arms, and legs, or any areas of excess, through liposuction and placing it in the gluteal area (also called fat grafting). Like other plastic surgery procedures, a butt lift can be performed with liposuction to contour the whole body. Many patients find that the combination of fat removal from their abdomen, arms, and legs, combined with fat deposited in the rear end creates a beautifully contouring effect without the help of other procedures.
The Brazilian Butt Lift vs Buttock Implants
The most common buttock augmentation alternative to the Brazilian butt lift is buttock implants. Buttock implants are able to create more significant changes to the butt than fat grafting, but the results are not as natural looking. However, with the Brazilian butt lift, there is the possibility of losing some of the results from fat transfer. It’s not uncommon for patients to have anywhere from 10 to 50 per cent of the fat placed in their posterior reabsorbed into their body.
Brazilian butt lifts also tend to be less risky than buttock implants. Because the Brazilian butt lift is less intensive than inserting buttock implants, a Brazilian butt lift poses a much smaller chance of infection – though, as with any surgery, there is still a small risk. This risk can be minimized with sterile surgical techniques and antibiotics prescribed by your plastic surgeon.
Best Candidates For the Brazilian Butt Lift
Someone may be a good candidate for a Brazilian butt lift if the patient:
- Has excess fat deposits elsewhere on their body. Fat collected through liposuction needs to be purified before it can be used, so the plastic surgeon needs to be able to collect three to four times the amount that needs to be inserted. Some patients may need to gain weight or consider an alternative procedure.
- Has a body shape that would be proportional with the new size and shape of their rear end. A plastic surgeon can help patients determine if a Brazilian butt lift is right for their body and how much of an increase in size would be best.
