Procedure
No anesthesia is required for microdermabrasion; it is a safe, non-surgical procedure that requires minimal treatment time. Also known as a “lunch hour” procedure, microdermabrasion typically takes anywhere between 30 minutes and an hour. Treatment entails the use of a diamond-tipped vacuum hand piece that effectively polishes away layers of dead and damaged skin cells to reveal healthy new skin. A vacuum handpiece emits very fine crystals onto the surface of the skin. This gentle abrasion removes layers of dead and damaged skin cells, effectively polishing your face. A newer innovation, known as crystal-free microdermabrasion, uses a diamond-tipped vacuum handpiece. This is not only cleaner, but more efficient and safer, since it won’t leave crystals imbedded in your skin. Multiple treatments over the course of a few weeks are usually needed to achieve the most beneficial results. For optimal results, the number of treatments recommended may range between 5 and 12, which are spaced about 2 to 3 weeks apart.
Results
There is no downtime, and results are usually noticeable immediately. The skin will be slightly pink for a couple days but may be concealed with makeup.
After treatment, additional moisturizer and sunscreen should be applied to protect sensitive skin as its condition improves. After your treatment, you will notice improvements in your skin’s tone, texture, and clarity.
