Traditional or Full Tummy Tuck

About Tummy Tuck Surgery Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, can remove loose, excess skin and tighten abdominal muscles. The traditional or full tummy tuck is the procedure that most plastic surgeons utilize to remove large amounts of sagging skin in the lower abdominal region.

During a traditional tummy tuck cosmetic surgery, the patient will be asleep under general anesthesia from a certified anesthesiologist. After anesthesia, Dr. Chiu then makes two incisions to complete the procedure: one that spans from hipbone to hipbone, and one around the navel. This tissue will be separated from the abdominal wall to tighten the separated abdominal muscles and to remove adipose tissue from the abdomen. This creates a firmer abdominal cavity and narrows the waistline in a new, slimming body contour.

Once the excess adipose tissue has been removed, the patient’s skin is draped back down over the abdominal wall for a smooth and flattened abdomen. The navel is then reinserted into a natural position on the newly contoured stomach and stitched into place. Once this is completed, surgical dressings will be placed over the stitches for protection and a temporary drain will be attached to drain the excess fluids that remain after tummy tuck surgery.

Ideal Full Tummy Tuck Candidates

Traditional tummy tuck patients typically possess a large amount of abdominal skin that cannot be removed from weight loss or dieting. Generally, ideal candidates have reached a stable weight, but prior surgery, pregnancy or weight fluctuations have left the patient with extensive abdominal muscle weakness and loose abdominal skin. Full tummy tuck candidates are considered for this surgery if:

  • Weight is stable
  • The patient is in good general health
  • You are not a smoker
  • You have finished having children
  • Patient has realistic expectations and a positive attitude
