Patients’ Question of the Day

Here’s a question one of my patient’s asked today:

Will getting pregnant squeeze my breast implants and cause them to leak?

Here’s the Answer!
During pregnancy, your breasts grow at a gradual pace that is obviously slower than an immediate breast augmentation. This allows time for your body to accommodate the growth and expand outward. Since all implants are placed under the breast tissue and usually under the chest (pectoral) muscle, your breasts cannot grow in such a way as to squeeze the implants. Of course, that means they cannot be squeezed to leak either. Also, laying your baby on your breasts would not give enough pressure to damage the implants.
