A facelift provides a youthful appearance to the face and typically lasts several years. Although this procedure is usually long-lasting, it does not negate the effects of gravity or the natural aging process. To maintain a rejuvenated appearance, many men and women often undergo a secondary facelift procedure.
The best candidates for facelift revision are in good physical and emotional health. Candidates should refrain from smoking and taking anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, at least two weeks before surgery to reduce the chances of complications. As with any surgical procedure, patients should have realistic expectations about the final outcome.
Individuals who undergo a secondary facelift procedure usually need to correct one or more of the following conditions:
Facelift revisions are performed on an outpatient basis at our accredited Beverly Hills facility. They are performed under general anesthesia and usually take a couple of hours to complete. During surgery, Dr. Chiu will restore a rejuvenating look to the face by making incisions along the prior scars so that no new scars will be formed. After excess skin and fat deposits are removed from the face, the remaining skin is tightened and the Dr. Chiu closes the incisions.
After Dr. Chiu completes the facelift revision, bandages will be placed around the incisions to minimize swelling and a thin tube may placed underneath the skin to drain any excess fluid. Dr. Chiu will prescribe medication to ease any pain or discomfort that is apparent while you recover from surgery. Although many patients return to work about a week after surgery, any strenuous activity and exercise should be avoided for at least four to six weeks after surgery.
By pulling the skin up instead of pulling it back towards the ears, Dr. Chiu gives his patients an appearance that looks more natural and less “done.” Patients are usually very satisfied with the results of their secondary facelift, and they can expect to look youthful for many more years to come. If your facial appearance is beginning to show signs of aging, or if you wish to correct a past facelift procedure, we encourage you to contact our Beverly Hills practice today.
