Lumecca™ IPL in Beverly Hills

Many men and women become unhappy with their skin tone as they age. They may be frustrated with blue, black, purple, or red discolorations. These marks, known as vascular or pigment skin lesions, may have always been there (birthmarks), or they may have developed over time (spider veins, etc.). These blemishes may make you self-conscious; fortunately, there is a treatment that can help improve these discolored areas on your skin.

Lumecca™ IPL (intense pulsed light therapy) treats these irregularities to help give you the clearer, more even skin that you’ve been wanting.

What Are the Benefits of Lumecca™ IPL Therapy?

  • Clearer Skin

Whether it be port wine stains, rosacea, angiomas, hyperpigmentation, or freckles, Lumecca™ IPL therapy can help clear these unsightly blemishes away, leaving you with clearer skin.

  • Higher Self Esteem

Many people cover their skin with clothing or makeup so that no one will see their skin blemishes. But with Lumecca™ IPL, there’s no need to hide your skin. You can feel comfortable showing your clearer and more rejuvenated skin wherever you go.

  • Fewer Treatments

Many standard IPL treatments require four or five different treatments, but with Lumecca™ IPL, you will only need one or two. This is because Lumecca™ IPL uses three times more energy than the standard form of IPL therapy.

How Is Lumecca™ IPL Performed?

Step 1

At your consultation, you and Dr. Chiu will discuss the vascular and pigment skin lesions that you want to eliminate. Dr. Chiu will explain the procedure as well as postsurgical recommendations. You will then schedule your treatment.

Step 2

On the day of your treatment, a cool gel will be spread over the treatment area of your skin.

Step 3

The Lumecca™ IPL device will be applied to the area. Many patients say that they do not feel anything besides the pressure of the device as it moves over the skin. This usually takes anywhere from 30 to 40 minutes, but it can take up to 90 minutes, depending on skin conditions.

Step 4

Once the procedure is completed, the gel will be wiped off your skin with a warm cloth, and a moisturizing cream will be applied to the treated area.

What Can I Expect During My Lumecca™ IPL Therapy Recovery?

  • Immediately After

Patients will have no downtime after their IPL treatment but may experience some redness. Many patients liken this feeling to a sunburn.

  • 3 to 7 Days

Over the week after your IPL therapy session, the treated blemishes on the skin will darken and scab over before flaking away. This process usually takes less than a week and can take as few as 2 to 3 days.

  • 1 Year

Though the skin lesions and blemishes will be treated, the results are rarely permanent. Because of this, you may need to have maintenance treatments performed every year or so. However, with proper skincare (using moisturizing cream and wearing sunscreen when outside), your results may last even longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IPL?

IPL is a non-surgical procedure that uses intense pulsed light to reduce blemishes on the skin, whether from birthmarks or lesions that have developed over time.

At what age should you get IPL therapy?

You can have IPL therapy at any age; however, many men and women notice more skin lesions as they get older.

How much does IPL therapy cost in Beverly Hills?

The specific price of IPL therapy will vary, depending on numerous factors, including treatment size; however, once you have your consultation with Dr. Chiu, you will be given the cost of the procedure. Additionally, financing is available.

Does Lumecca™ IPL treat acne?

Lumecca™ IPL therapy helps clear various forms of skin blemishes, including acne. In addition to removing much of the skin discoloration from acne, the therapy will also kill surface bacteria and minimize pore size to allow you to have healthier skin all around.

When can I go back out in the sun after IPL therapy?

You will want to stay away from direct sunlight as much as you can for the next four to six weeks. During that time, make sure to wear sunscreen with SPF 30+ if you do need to be out in the sun.

Is IPL safe?

Yes. While you may feel a slight stinging sensation during the procedure and have some soreness and swelling in the days after therapy, IPL is safe and effective for lessening the appearance of unsightly skin blemishes.

Will I have pain from IPL therapy?

One of the many benefits of using Lumecca™ IPL is that it uses a sapphire cooling tip to give added comfort to the procedure. However, some patients have reported a tingling or even slight stinging sensation during the procedure. You may have some skin redness, tenderness, or swelling during the days after the treatment, but these side effects will dissipate.

Will I have scars from IPL therapy?

No. IPL therapy is designed to reduce skin blemishes, not add new ones.
