Restylane was first created in Sweden, and then brought into the United States. It is the first long lasting hyaluronic acid filler and can last about 6 months. Because a molecule of Restylane closely resembles natural hyaluronic acid and because the hyaluronic acid in it is not derived from animals, Restylane procedures have a reduced risk of inflammatory or allergic reactions. The duration of this treatment depends on many factors, including skin type, lifestyle, age, the degree of perfection demanded by the patient, and the injection of the practitioner.
Like collagen, hyaluronic acid (HA) is comprised of all living cells and occurs naturally in the body, thus eliminating the need for skin allergy tests prior to injection. It is a sugar molecule that attracts and binds water, hydrating the skin where it is injected and increasing volume. Hyaluronic acid is a filler that provides immediate volume enhancement results, whether it is used to fill wrinkles and folds or to plump up lips. HA dermal fillers are indicated for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Many people prefer a hyaluronic acid product over collagen because it is softer and tends to be longer lasting.
Restylane, Juvèderm, and Captique are different products that are classified as hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. The injection process takes 15-30 minutes and results are immediate, with little or no recovery and downtime. If you have an important event, it is recommended that you schedule treatment one week or so prior to ensure that there is no remaining redness or swelling.
