Renuvion® Skin Tightening and Resurfacing in Beverly Hills
Whether from age or lifestyle, many women and men develop skin concerns and irregularities on their face and neck. These may be wrinkles, fine lines, sun spots, or hyperpigmentation, and these blemishes can lead men and women to feel self-conscious about their appearance.
How Is a Renuvion® Treatment Performed?
-
Consultation
At your consultation at Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery, you will have a chance to discuss your aesthetic concerns and goals with Dr. Chiu. Dr. Chiu will offer his suggestions and make sure that Renuvion® is the right treatment for you. He will also give you any pre-treatment instructions to follow.
-
Before Treatment
Before your treatment, the treatment area(s) will be numbed with lidocaine. Though you may still feel some discomfort during the treatment, you should not feel any pain.
-
During Treatment
Once the lidocaine is administered, Dr. Chiu will make small incisions in the treatment area. He will then insert the Renuvion® probe through the incisions so that the RF energy and helium plasma combination can be delivered directly under the skin.
The heat from the plasma beam causes the skin to contract, while the helium gas cools the area, causing the skin and underlying tissues to be tightened dramatically.
-
After Treatment
Your Renuvion® treatment can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours to complete, depending on the extent of the treatment.
Patients will be able to return home shortly after their treatment finishes.
What Can I Expect During My Renuvion® Recovery?
-
Immediately After
You will have redness, bruising, swelling, itching, and some soreness after your Renuvion® treatment. Over-the-counter medication can be taken to alleviate any pain you may feel during this period.
-
1 Week
It is important to rest and allow your skin and body to heal during the first 10 days. You should not engage in any strenuous activity during this time. Additionally, it is important that you drink plenty of water, which helps speed up your recovery time.
-
2 to 3 Weeks
At this point, you should be able to return to most of your daily activities, though you will still have some redness, bruising, swelling, and itching in the treatment area(s). These side effects should be dissipating slowly. Additionally, you should no longer be feeling any discomfort during this point in your recovery.
-
4 to 6 Weeks
By this point, your side effects should be gone and you should be able to resume all of your normal activities, including strenuous activities, like exercise.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Renuvion® help with my acne scars?
Yes! Renuvion® can dramatically help the appearance of scars on the face and neck, including scars from acne. However, Renuvion® will not help get rid of the presence of active acne on your face.
How bad will the scars be after my Renuvion® treatment?
While Renuvion® requires incisions to be made in your skin, the size of these incisions is so minimal that you will have little to no noticeable scarring, and if scars are present after your treatment, they will fade over time.
How many Renuvion® treatments will I need?
Most patients require only one treatment to achieve their desired results; however, some patients need a second Renuvion® treatment. The prospect of a second treatment is something that you and Dr. Chiu will discuss at a follow-up appointment.
When will I see my Renuvion® results?
While you will see some results immediately after your treatment, it usually takes anywhere from six to nine months to see your final results.
How long will my Renuvion® results last?
Though Renuvion® results are not permanent, they are long lasting. Most patients can look to enjoy their results for up to 10 years on their face and five to seven years on their neck.
Is Renuvion® safe?
Although Renuvion® is FDA-approved for certain uses, it is not FDA-approved for the treatment of aesthetic skin problems. The FDA recently released a warning about the treatment when used for aesthetic concerns, describing potential risks, including burns, infection, and nerve damage. Apyx Medical (the maker of Renuvion®) responded to these warnings with a statement, “We do not and will not promote the use of our products – or train physicians – for these procedures until we receive clearance from the FDA. Our labeling specifically warns against the use of our products for this indication as well. We support the FDA’s focus on ensuring that healthcare providers and patients understand the safe and proper use of our products.“
