The Five Most Common Misconceptions About Breast Augmentation

April 11th, 2016 | Posted in: Breast Augmentation, Breast Enhancement, Breast Implants, Breast Lift, Cosmetic Surgery, Plastic Surgery | Tags: , , , ,

Whether through Hollywood actresses or press, the truth about breast augmentation has been skewed quite a bit since practices first began to offer it. If you have considered breast augmentation, chances are that some of these misconceptions have factored into your decision-making process. To help clarify the matter for you, this article will examine some of the myths that have been circulating, and explain why they should not be a concern.

1. All Implants Look Fake

In the early days of breast augmentation, the characteristic look which everyone chose was the big and obvious look. This look is what most people now associate with breast augmentation. While it is certainly true that some women still prefer this particular look, it is not the only option available. Most women will actually choose implants that provide more natural-looking enhancements. In fact, many surgeons understand this and have become quite skilled at creating the most natural look possible. With newer innovations since the inception of breast augmentation, many women have been undergone subtle augmentations proportionate to their own bodies.

2. Implants Must Be Large

Recently, our conceptions of beauty have been shifting. More and more women now prefer a more realistic notion of beauty to the older, fake look. Plastic surgeons have picked up on this trend, and responded with smaller, proportionate implants.
They have also developed several other innovations to keep up with this trend. Vectra 3D imaging, for example, has made sizing a more exact process. These machines create three-dimensional images of a patient’s body, which may then be manipulated on a computer to give the patient an accurate representation of how each implant will look. This technology makes it much easier to create the exact look that they want, without having to worry about repercussions afterward.

3. Implants Change Your Lifestyle

Like any surgery, breast augmentation requires a significant amount of time for recovery. But after this timeframe (which your surgeon will give you), it is possible to resume regular activities, and even more adventurous activities including scuba diving and parachuting.

4. Silicone Implants Are Dangerous

While there have been complications and debates over the older models of silicone implants, the newer silicone gel implants are perfectly safe. In fact, silicone gel implants have been approved by the FDA for women age 22 and older. Their track record has been established by studies which have found that the new model is comparable to saline implants, which have been used for 40 years and counting. Best of all, they create a far more natural look and feel compared with older implants.

5. Breast Implants Are Permanent

Some people might fear that getting a breast augmentation is a permanent choice. While a breast augmentation should be carefully considered, the permanence of the procedure should not be a concern. Some patients choose to keep their implants for the rest of their lives. Others choose to exchange their implants, many of them tired of the old, fake look. They undergo a much easier and less invasive process compared with the original surgery. Others change their mind and remove the implants completely. The choice is entirely up to you.
