Types of Breast Implant Placement

Sub-Muscular Breast Implant Placement

A sub-muscular breast implant positions the patient’s breast implants partially under the pectoralis major chest muscle. Sub-muscular breast implants may result in more uncomfortable recovery time as opposed to sub-glandular implant placement as they stretch out the chest muscle.

Sub-Glandular

Placing the breast implants above the muscle is a straightforward procedure that does not involve muscle tissue disturbance allowing for an easier recovery period after breast augmentation. Since the muscle is not surgically intervened the patient’s ability to adapt to the breast implants is what allows the shortened recovery time as opposed to sub-muscular breast implant placement.

Patients who undergo breast augmentation for an aesthetically larger appearance may benefit from having breast implants placed sub-glandular.
